End times events blog

June 16, 2009

There’s a blog I regularly read that I have not included on my blogroll.  There are many views of end times in the Christian community, and even many more in the non-Christian community.   It is hard to find info on this topic that I completely agree with, which is why I haven’t put many on my blogroll.  However, I am fascinated with end times.  Especially with the current events we are witnessing.  I love seeing God be God.  God is so amazing.

This site takes current events each day and ties them to end times scriptures.  I do not always agree with his analysis, but it is thought provoking.   Since there’s even more going on in the middle east and our world right now, I thought I’d share this resource with my disclaimer.   When you’re reading analysis, remember you are reading man’s opinion, not God’s ultimate Word.

Is the Bible the word of God?

January 1, 2009

I believe it is, based on the evidence. I have a good friend who is an atheist and reads this blog. We have had very good discussions about why we each believe. I told him he has made me a better Christian because I’ve had to be better at apologetics. But he always seems to have a question that throws me for a loop.

Too many Christians in this country, including myself, cannot articulately explain the basis of their faith. My friend told me… “All people here think an atheist is just someone, who doesn’t want to accept that god is superior. They can’t imagine that there is anybody who just doesn’t believe that he exists at all.”

Books are written on the evidence which I can’t come close to touching in a blog. But I can give a few examples of why I believe. When I look at Israel, I see enough evidence. In the Old Testament, God promised them that they would remain a nation. If they followed Him, they would be blessed and if they did not, then there would be grave consequences. We have seen this play out in history. Their trials and tribulations are historical fact. We’re seeing it play out now. This little piece of land is front and center in our news everyday.

There is also archaeological proof. The books of the Bible are strongly supported by manuscript evidence (the evidence of early hand written copies). The famous Dead Sea Scrolls are one example of the Old Testament evidence. These documents came from the “library” of a settlement founded at Qumran before 150 B.C. and abandoned about 68 A.D. Some of the manuscript copies were made during that period, and some were written earlier (third century BC) and brought to the settlement. Ignoring spelling-oriented (orthographic) changes and similar small differences, the Dead Sea Scrolls match the Hebrew text behind today’s Old Testament, in spite of the passage of over 2,000 years.

I also look at the behavior of the 11 remaining apostles after Jesus’ crucifiction. They died horrible deaths to spread the word of the Savior. If He had been a sham, I cannot see this many people putting themselves through this type of persecution for a made up story.

Those are a few reasons I believe the Bible is the Word of God.
