In Houston, the grocery stores start their new sales each Wed. We rec’d the Houston Chronicle which contains the fliers. If you don’t you can always lookonline. This week I’m buying Chicken.
Kroger’s has Pilgrims Pride Boneless Chicken Breasts for BOGOF. If you get two packages of equal value, the price per pound is $2.50. This is not cheap. I like my meat to be under $2.00 per pound. HEB is advertising Hill Country Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts for $1.97 per pound with a $10 purchase. Before Dave went to work this morning, I ran to Kroger’s and got the Pilgrim’s Pride even though it was more expensive. I don’t think has been pumped with as much junk as the generic brand. I try to buy Pilgrim’s Pride, Tyson and Sanderson Farms. I may be wrong on this. If so, convince me b/c I’d love to buy the cheaper brand. I’ll share more on what I do with my two packages of chicken later. I plan to cook them both today and make meals from them the next few days.
If you’re in the mood for pork, Randall’s has Fresh Whole Boneless Pork Loin for $1.99 per pound. I think Randall’s has the best meat in Houston for a mainstream grocery store. Of course Whole Foods and RiceEpicurean may have better quality, but they are out of my price range. Randall’s (and HEB) also have grapes for 89 cents/pound and packages of Strawberries for BOGOF.
Randall’s also has a coupon in their flier for Safeway Hickory Smoked Bacon $5.99 for 3 lb package. I’ll buy a pack and repackage it in smaller portions, then freeze.
Randall’s has a promo Buy 5/Save $5 instantly. Several Quaker products are listed. I’m going to check for coupons on these at www.families.com under coupon database. I might be able to get these for almost free, but it will take a little research. I’ll share my findings on this promo later.
If you need to buy steak this week, I’d head to HEB for the T-Bone steaks at $3.97 (limit 2 with a $10 purchse). You know it is a good deal when there is a limit and min purchase. I buy milk, eggs and fruit to get my min purchase. They also have a 5 pound bag of potatoes for $1.99.
